Students are honing their coding skills. We covered the basics of coding and sequencing, and the students had the opportunity to independently program and test their robots!
A day spent learning about capillary action in plants, exploring primary colors, and forming a hypothesis.
Students engage in collaborative brainstorming as they design and build catapults.
During this hands-on STEM lesson, learners explored the history of catapults—discovering when they were invented, who used them, and for what purposes. This activity combined engineering, historical context, and creative problem-solving to bring learning to life.
On-site field trip: Earthquake Engineering in Action
Elementary and middle school students explored the science behind earthquakes before working in small, collaborative teams to brainstorm, design, and engineer structures capable of withstanding simulated quakes. Hands-on challenges like this foster critical thinking, teamwork, and real-world problem-solving skills.
Cultural Connections Through STEM
At Mobile STEM Academy, students gain more than just science and engineering skills—they explore the world through culturally enriched STEM experiences. In this hands-on engineering lab, students learned about Ancient China and applied their knowledge by designing and constructing their own versions of the Great Wall. Activities like this encourage global awareness, creativity, and cross-curricular learning.
Engineering Labs
Students tapped into their inner engineer and collaborated to brainstorm the design of a functioning roller coaster. Drawing on their knowledge of potential energy and how to convert it into kinetic energy, they worked together to get their coaster cars moving. This collaborative learning experience truly showcased the best of teamwork!
Incorporating Reading & Art
Incorporating reading into the lives of our youngest learners begins with the simple yet profound act of reading to them. By creating a cozy and inviting environment, we engage children with colorful picture books and lively storytelling that capture their imagination. This shared experience not only fosters a love for reading from an early age but also enhances their language skills, vocabulary, and comprehension. Through interactive discussions about the stories, we encourage curiosity and critical thinking, helping them connect the narratives to their own experiences. Reading aloud becomes a cherished ritual, laying a strong foundation for lifelong learning and a deeper appreciation for literature.
We incorporate art because it nurtures creativity, self-expression, and critical thinking, allowing them to explore and communicate their thoughts and feelings in unique ways. Engaging in artistic activities enhances fine motor skills and cognitive development, as children learn to observe, interpret, and make connections within their environment!
